The success that Jim Harbaugh has achieved as a head coach in the NFL and the NCAA is undeniable. He has established himself as one of the greatest coaches in football, the last time he coached in the NFL, he was able to take the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl. While he failed to close the season out, Harbaugh’s 69% is the highest career win percentage amongst active NFL coaches.
As he gears up to make a comeback in the league as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, one former player believes that he will be the one to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs from achieving a three-peat. Former Raiders star Akbar Gbajabiamila is convinced that Jim Harbaugh will be the first head coach to come up with a concrete solution to stop Mahomes on the football field.
Gbajabiamila revealed via The Rich Eisen Show that the Chargers are legitimate threats this season because of Harbaugh.
The former defensive end admitted that while his statement may sound bold at this juncture, knowing Harbaugh, it will not be that surprising to see him beat out the Chiefs and lead the Chargers to a Super Bowl.
His arrival in LA has sparked a culture change within the organization. Jim Harbaugh has a talented young quarterback and a defense with immense potential but one that lacked guidance. In the draft this year, the Chargers picked offensive tackle Joe Alt in the first round, a pick that was questioned and slept on by fans. However, his addition will prove to be a boon for Justin Herbert.
Despite the talent pool available at his disposal, Jim Harbaugh will have to go up against the best players in the NFL. He is in the talent-packed AFC conference featuring the likes of Lamar Jackson, Tua Tagovailoa, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. Apart from Patrick Mahomes, there are other hurdles that he will need to get past.
However, Jim Harbaugh finds a way to win, sooner or later. That is the only reason it would be foolish to doubt his abilities as a head coach in the NFL. The Los Angeles Chargers will be the team to watch this season and it because of their head coach.
