Patrick Mahomes was blown away by Jude Bellingham’s goal at the depth for the England soccer team, which robbed Slovakia of a famous win at the Euro 2024. Despite the English being the overwhelming favorites against the Slovaks, they took the lead through Ivan Schranz in the 25th minute.
Keeping the recent poor form alive, England chased the game but to little to no avail until the game slid into 6 minutes of added time. Right-back Kyle Walker threw a deep ball into the Slovakian penalty box, hoping to find an English head.
Central back Marc Guehi flicked the ball ahead into the path of Jude Bellingham, who had been chasing shadows the entire game. However, for once he showed that Real Madrid quality, getting clear of the defender, he unleashed a brilliant bicycle kick which sailed past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, spending time with his family in Spain, caught up with Bellingham’s spectacular equalizer and only had one thing to say.
England won the game, but it took an extra half an hour of game time to do it. Captain Harry Kane bundled in from a Cole Palmer corner in the first half of the extra time, booking their place in the next stage.
Bellingham and Kane celebrated the victory and the Birmingham native later saw Mahomes’ reaction to his goal. He left a short reply in the comment section.
Even though Patrick Mahomes is one of the biggest names in gridiron football, he also has keen interests in other sports. Being born into the family of Pat Mahomes, who starred for the likes of the Texas Rangers and the New York Mets, the 28-year-old had an affinity for baseball.
His mother, Randi Mahomes, wanted him to continue in baseball, but his head coach at Texas Tech persuaded him to play football instead. Now he is a three-time Super Bowl winner and three-time Super Bowl MVP.
Mahomes’ wife Brittany Matthews played soccer in high school and then in college. She was even on the radar for trials for the USWNT team before she married Patrick. However, her love for the sport never withered away.
Brittany is now a part owner of the WSL side Kansas City Currents with her husband. They recently finished constructing a new stadium by the Missouri River which holds around 11,500 fans during game days.
